Description

You are invited to the war photography exhibition "Front", which will take place at Zpațiu, in Kishinev, from February 27 to March 22. Curated by Ioana Cîrlig and produced by Scena9 and Rezidența9, the exhibition brings together the work of two outstanding photographers: Larisa Kalik [UA] and Vadim Ghirda [RO]. Oberliht Association is the local partner for the itinerant exhibition in Chisinau.
Larisa Kalik, a young dissident photographer based in Ukraine, has been documenting the realities of war on the Ukrainian front for over three years. Vadim Ghirda is a Pulitzer prize-winning Romanian photographer with decades of experience on various international fronts, capturing images from conflict zones such as Yugoslavia, Gaza, and Ukraine.
Their photographs allow us to see the reality of contemporary wars and the devastating effects on people's lives and communities in besieged territories, prompting us to reflect on the current state of the world.
The opening will take place on February 27, at 19:00 at Zpațiu/Zpace (Alexei Şciusev 103, Chișinău) in the presence of Larisa Kalik and Ioana Pelehatăi, Scena9 coordinating editor. On Friday, February 28, starting at 18:00, the Chisinau public can participate in a guided tour and a discussion about the ethics of war photography and the representation of violence in photography, with Larisa Kalik and Ioana Pelehatăi. The discussion will take place in English.
During the exhibition, a series of events will explore the ethics of war photography and connect the local audience with the Ukrainian community in Chisinau. The detailed program of these events will be available soon.

The guided tours and discussions of "FRONT" are part of the program "Care-i faza cu arta contemporană / What's up with contemporary art?", initiated by Rezidența9 and are free admission, subject to availability. "What's up with contemporary art?" aims to bring young audiences closer to recent artistic practices and narratives.
